Foscam FI8918W Wireless IP Camera Demo

amzn.to Quick demonstration showing some of the cool features and capabilities of the Foscam (FI8918W) Wireless IP Camera. In this video I remotely control the camera through my Droid X and give you a feel for the audio and video quality you can expect from it. I have a Sony receiver STR-DG510. I was playing music through the receiver when it suddenly stopped and displayed/flashed PROTECT. After unplugging everything and trying a different power outlet, it still flashed PROTECT. Doing some research I found that this means there is a short somewhere in the circuitry. I opened the case and found that with one of the cords running to the digital board unplugged, PROTECT no longer flashed when the unit was turned on. However, I could not get any audio to come out of the speakers or headphones. So my question is, could the digital board be the root of my problem or is it more likely something bigger. The unplugged cord is CNP504/CNP505.

I have noticed this in the past 2 months. It takes more time to shut down. This is my work laptop. Is this some kind of surveillance system ? i have nothing to worry about but it would still be good to know whats going on with the computer.

I’m in charge of a ghost hunting team. And I’ve always had to record surveillance video with a laptop. The problem is that it’s not the best quality laptop. And recently it’s only been running the recording program when it wants to. So I’m looking to invest some of our current team funds into either a new laptop or a DVR. But I’ve heard rumors that DVRs don’t work that well when they’re constantly being plugged in and out and are always on the road. I’ve heard that they’re not the most reliable machines when you have to travel with them a lot… On the other hand, the downside of getting another laptop is the price. I’ll have to pay several hundred dollars more. And I don’t have the funds to do buy one at the current moment.

In my situation, which machine (between a DVR and a laptop) would work best for me? And also, are there really traveling woes for a DVR? Or is that all bs?

THanks

Hello All,

Well thank you all for helping me, from my original post. The box was taken down and a friend of mine, who works for the township, told me the box was a speed checker/car counter to see how many cars go up and down our street and to rate their speed. So mystery solved!

Here is my original post, so you all know what I’m referring to if you’d like to read it.

Hi,
I saw 2 police officers installing this device on my street, in front of my house where the telephone pole is located at 7:15am. It’s not connected to any wires that I can see. I don’t live in the best part of town, so maybe it’s some sort of surveillance but I don’t see a lens anywhere. I read a post from someone that had a similar situation happen and they were told supposedly that it was a wireless signal booster to help cops look up license plate info. easier. I live by a park so the cops are always checking people out, so who knows? Maybe that’s all it is. Appreciate any helpful feedback.

Thanks everybody for your feedback.

Who knows what that device is. I know a while ago I heard there was a camera at the park, but I’m not sure if it’s still set up.
Will definitely let you all know when I find out what this darn thing is. Appreciate all your comments/feedback.

I have both a projector and a monitor. They both have HDMI outputs. My receiver only has one output. What are my options if I want to switch between these two without having to pull out cables every time?
Yes, sorry. I meant to say they both have HDMI inputs. I have one source and two destinations and I need to see if there is a way of switching between the two more easily.

Car surveillance Camera Set-Up?

I’m thinking about putting a Car surveillance system in my car. It would run on a separate power source along with powering on when the car is on. It would also have the date and time when its recording.
It would consist of a total of 3 camera’s. One either on my dash facing forward or on the opposite end of the rear view mirror.
One in the Middle of my car where the light is facing my odometer.
And One placed behind the backseat facing my rear.

They would hopefully be small camera’s and since I have tinted windows along with my car being black it wouldn’t be noticeable. I’ve seen the set-up in another Rx-8 and it helps a lot as its perfect for evidence in vehicle accidents along with body shop abuse. It would be expensive as I know but I’m not too worried about that as much as how it would be set up.

Reason I’m doing this is mainly because my friend had gotten a ticket on the freeway for speeding even though he was going 60 in a 65 zone on the freeway. Ticket said he was going 70 and I was right there when it happened. The camera in the middle would always be focused on my tachometer where it shows the speed in case I ever get pulled over for speeding, I will present that in court to help my case. Along with the other camera’s in case I ever get into a accident. Radar detectors are nice but I don’t like relying on them too much.
Another incident where I read it helped a guy find out that his car was being abused and driven around for fun by the people that worked at the auto-shop instead of being repaired. He also had surveillance camera set up in his car. The auto-shop workers were unaware that it was recording the whole time.

In all this would be a safety precaution/measure if anything like this would happen in the future. I, however do plan on keeping my car for a very long time.

*I live in California if that helps.

Any advice/opinion or even recommendations on products?
