we have this Q-see qsd2316l cctv system and it is on the second floor of the house. it has its own monitor but since i fixed the computer, i cant view the cctv footages because the monitor is now connected to the pc. i cant have them share the monitor since it only has one cable. can i connect the cctv system to the cpu without going through the router? i can see that there is a "com" port behind the dvr system, can i use this port?

I have a CCTV system connected to a DVR and it is on my router. How can I get a static IP address so I can always get access to the DVR. Dealing with DSL people is very difficult. I was told I could get a static IP address from others.
